Audacity? This was like a foreign language to me at first. I am a HUGE country music fan, but getting into the “behind the scenes” of music is not something that came to me right away. After playing around with Audacity for about 10 minutes I finally started to get the hang of it. I chose Greatest Hits Storytelling (3 Stars) because I said previously; I am a huge country music fan. Country music to me speaks to you and you can relate it to your daily life. For the artist I chose Luke Bryan because he is by far one of the top 3 country artists I love listening to.

The storyline is about Luke Bryan being infatuated with a girl. He falls in love with her after talking about her innocence, then sitting on the back of tailgate making him fall in love each moment and then kissed him. He expresses how she makes him feel and how he sees her as the most beautiful girl. I started out the story with his song “Roller Coaster” and I finished the story with that as well. I chose to do that because I wanted the new story that I told with 5 of his songs to be tied together in a way that it started as the beginning of the roller coaster and ended with the last hoorah of the roller coaster.

The order of the songs went:

  1. Roller Coaster
  2. Play it Again
  3. Drunk on You
  4. That’s My Kind of Night
  5. Crash My Party
  6. Roller Coaster (again)

Mixing all these songs together definitely was not easy. First off, I went through all of his songs and lyrics, and picked out certain lines that I thought would go together to make a story (Luke Bryan has a tendency to sing about falling in love, drinking, and having a good time) so I decided to put it all together. After I chose the lyrics, I put them in an order to record so I could have a visual. YouTube was my choice on where to listen to and record the music from, except it decided to have all of the loading difficulties tonight. I recorded each part of the song, some more times than others because I couldn’t seem to get the timing right. After all songs were recorded, I went back and listened to the final product and cut parts out that I didn’t feel were necessary or that were overlapping others. This was definitely a fun experience, and can’t wait to learn some tricks with Audacity.

  1. I love the story that you made out of Luke’s songs! I did this same assignment but with Brad Paisley. It seems like country music makes this assignment a little easier haha. Anyway, I really enjoyed your take on it!

  2. I love how you chose to different assignments than the one listed. I looked like there were a lot of choices out there and you chose a really cool one. Was it hard to find just the right lyrics and parts of the song to make this story work well? I will have to look into doing this assignment as we move forward with audio. Next time use garage band if you have a Mac, I found it to be a lot easier and more simple to use than the program that was recommended.

  3. I can tell that you put a ton of work into this, and it really shows- good job! The one critique I have is that the sound is a little grainy, sometimes making it hard to understand what the lyrics are saying. One thing I found super helpful when trying to pull good quality sound for my project was downloading audio from a youtube video. You can do this by using any youtube to mp3 site, and it really helps the audio quality!
